I saw Laura Marling recently supporting Neil Young, and she suffered horribly by comparison with the force of nature that is Neil. Best bar??? Have to say I agree re Belle and Sebastian being a great live act. Tindersticks can be alsotremendous live, but the incarnation I saw earlier this year was nothing special. The stand out artist on those lists is Ezra Furman.
Fine songs and fine band. I believe White Denim are good live too. I can vouch for Emma Pollock, saw her at IndieTracks a few weeks ago and she was perfect for a mid-afternoon festival slot. Music sounded great, and she likes a chat with the crowd. Saw Ryley preview his new album a couple of weeks ago and the songs he played were excellent. I like James Blake but for a festival?

Nialler9's New Irish Music: Basciville, TooFools, Villagers and more
I hear a lot about Ezra Furman and really must check him out. I saw James Blake at the Popaganda festival last year, and it was one of the most magical gigs of that festival. The audience was absolutely mesmerized and he got roars of approval from everyone.
I saw Alice Cooper at the Edinburgh Playhouse in Touring his worst album, with his worst band Rambo clone Kane Roberts on guitar and he was still good fun live. Just listen to all seconds of Yr Horoscope for a ray of vintage sunshine. Neil Brogan releases his sixth independent album this week.
Moving between folk and lo-fi guitar rock with psychedelia, experimental and ambient touches, the track album feels like an introduction to a band's sound rather than a fully fledged offering. That it was also released on cassette seals the ramshackle throwback sentiment in the music. TooFools It's not every week a nine-piece band rolls around with an impressive debut track. The band made an appearance at Turning Pirate annual NYE mixtape - expect more live outings from them in the near future. Their debut single proper Touch is out laterthis month.

This name will appear beside any comments you post. Band member Nick took to the stage alone with just a guitar and his impressive vocals. His timid but relaxed delivery provided soothing gentle tones which combined with his shy persona really won over the audience. Nick was later joined by a stand-in drummer as the tracks picked up pace for some very infectious numbers and riffs. Penultimately came Leeds based Hilary and the Hate Crimes, my personal highlight of the evening. They packed vast amounts of energy into a short set, Hilary in particular as she impressively thrashed out some complex and intricate drumming patterns.
They began with some big atmospheric numbers before progressing to moodier angst ridden grit, reminiscent of the first The Horrors album but with added twists.
